Murhpy Auditorium - American College of Surgeons
Chicago, IL

Hill Mechanical Corp. was chosen as the design and build HVAC and plumbing contractor for the restoration of the historic Murphy Auditorium. The Murphy Auditorium was constructed in 1926 adjacent to the Nickerson Mansion by the American College of Surgeons. The 34,500 square foot building will continue to be used as an auditorium, library, museum, laboratories and classrooms. The building had steam boilers with radiators throughout. The original ventilation system was designed for 100% outside air and included cast iron steam coils. Hill Mechanical is installing a new 25,000 CFM double wall indoor air handling unit with a remote 125 ton air cooled chiller and two - 2,000,000 BTU gas fired hot water boilers. The existing ductwork serving the auditorium will be cleaned and reused along with the original ornamental grilles. A new DDC temperature control system will replace the existing pneumatic system.
